Valentía

The Story:

One of my first macro underwater shots. I was used to wide-angle photography, but this tiny creature challenged me to see the ocean differently. Instead of using continuous light, I relied on a strobe light—a new experience that pushed me beyond my comfort zone.

Macro photography demands an intense level of focus, and endless patience—especially when you’re fully geared in scuba equipment, peering through a mask, with no external monitor, all while battling a current. Every small movement feels amplified, turning the simplest adjustments into a challenge.

This little warrior, barely two inches long, had legs three times its body length and an attitude far bigger than its size. Known for its boldness, the arrow crab doesn’t back down easily—whether against other species or, in my case, against my own learning curve.

That was my lesson. I shifted my mindset—not to aggression, but to assertiveness (channeling my inner arrow crab, lol). I focused on trusting my skills. In the end, I learned something far bigger than just macro techniques: the size of a problem doesn’t matter—what matters is how you face it.
